an ode citrus season (in mexico!)
mexican markets, making dinner in mexico city & the best citrus salad you can make in 5 mins!
i know this might seem a little belated in writing about citrus season now. but i thought i ought to talk about it before it is over, fully. because it is indeed an important thing to talk about.
i look forward to citrus season all year. not just because the farmer’s markets fill with glorious hues of oranges and lemons, or because my citrus trees (we have a pomelo tree in our back garden and a lemon tree in the front) finally begin to bear ripened fruit, but mostly because i know i get to enjoy and make so many delicious things with these stupendous fruits.
i am currently writing this from mexico city, and basking in all the citrus-glory the city has to offer. it seems that citrus is a thing here all year round. especially limes, lemons & most importantly—oranges!
we decided to come here for part work/part fun. my husband and i are both remote workers and have been meaning to come and work from here for such a long time now. i think this might be our 6th or 7th trip to CDMX, and we keep returning for more.
we absolutely adore this city and everything it has to offer - the food (obviously), the people, the art, the culture, the architecture, the nature—all of the green parks are just breathtaking. i never get over how green and lush mexico city feels.
we have eaten so much good food already, and we are still here for another 2 days! i am writing this on wednesday and we leave on saturday morning, after being here for just over a week. of course, i am going to cover absolutely everything that we ate, and indeed—where we ate, in another post very soon. but today, i wanted to talk about citrus and the stunning bounty that adorned every market and street corner, whilst here.
